Long-Term Tree Regeneration of Fragmented Agroforestry Systems Under Varying Climatic Conditions

چکیده

Iberian dehesas and montados are agroforestry systems protected by the European Habitats Directive due to high levels of biological diversity associated their savannah-like structure. Tree scattering in dehesas, other is, however, known compromise tree regeneration, although recent work suggests that it may protect populations from climate warming alleviating plant-plant competition. We analyze how climatic conditions, isolation interactions influence outcomes regeneration stages, flower production early seedling establishment, using data gathered during long-term monitoring (2001–2018) ca. 300 Holm oak Quercus ilex trees located central Spain. reproductive effort, predispersal seed losses, recruitment were sensitive change, especially year-round drought. Effort decreased, while abortion predation increased, with higher drought intensity. Spring increases pollination effectiveness, but had no further effect on acorn crops. Forest clearing seemed have little scope ameliorate these negative effects, as shown weak or interactive effects between spatial configuration (cover isolation) variables (spring temperature intensity). opening aimed at decreasing adult mortality under change scenarios would then recruitment. Landscape-scale rotations alternating shrub encroachment thinning along periods adapted changing proposed main management option preserve both forests long term.

Varying coefficient Models are among the most important tools for discovering the dynamic patterns when a fixed pattern does not fit adequately well on the data, due to existing diverse temporal or local patterns. These models are natural extensions of classical parametric models that have achieved great popularity in data analysis with good interpretability. The high flexibility and interpretab...

Performance Evaluation of Surveillance Systems Under Varying Conditions

Effectively evaluating the performance of moving object detection and tracking algorithms is an important step towards attaining robust digital video surveillance systems with sufficient accuracy for practical applications. As systems become more complex and achieve greater robustness, the ability to quantitatively assess performance is needed in order to continuously improve performance. In th...

Host-parasite interactions under extreme climatic conditions

The effect that climatic changes can exert on parasitic interactions represents a multifactor problem whose results are difficult to predict. The actual impact of changes will depend on their magnitude and the physiological tolerance of affected organisms. When the change is considered extreme (i.e. unusual weather events that are at the extremes of the historical distribution for a given area)...

Sap flow measurements of lateral tree roots in agroforestry systems.

Successful extension of agroforestry to areas of the semi-arid tropics where deep reserves of water exist requires that the tree species be complementary to the associated crops in their use of water within the crop rooting zone. However, it is difficult to identify trees suitable for dryland agroforestry because most existing techniques for determining water uptake by roots cannot distinguish ...

Integrative Management of Cocoa Agroforestry Systems: Promoting Long-term On-farm Diversity

In cocoa (Theobroma cacao) agroforestry systems, upper canopy trees and food crops are frequently planted for shade, diversification of farm products, and improved soil fertility. As diversification remains a top priority for farm economic and environmental sustainability, system management plays a substantial role in farm diversity, requiring long-term analysis. We measured species richness dy...
